One of the largest, longest, and most lavish parades in the Chicago area, the Houby Day Parade pays homage to the Czechoslovakian culture (Houby is the Czech work for mushroom) which was rich in the Berwyn Cicero area when it was originally settled. The parade kicks off at 12:00 Noon in Berwyn at East Street on Cermak Rd. heading into the Town of Cicero and ending just before Central Ave. Come to parade where you can have a chance to see and maybe touch Scottie as we pass by. Have your camera ready to shoot and we'll even stop for a quick photo. Pictured above from the 2011 Houby Day Parade with the Houby Day Queen, Scottie is brought to the parade by the Town of Cicero. So your best chance to have us stop for you is east of Lombard Ave in the Town of Cicero where we will be walking a slower pace. This year's parade theme is Shop Cicero Stores. So when you stop into a local store while you're in Cicero that weekend, tell them Scottie the Parrot sent you. The entire Houby Festival runs Thursday, October 3 — Sunday, October 6 Saturday, October 12, 2013 1:30 - 3:30 PM Catch Scottie in Mount Prospect for their Fall Festival. Scottie will be appearing for your entertainment and to touch and hold. Be sure to bring your camera so you can capture your or your children's picture with him. Look for him as he wanders the festival between 1:30 and 3:30 pm. The festival will be running rain or shine in downtown Mount Prospect, IL in the downtown merchant district on the 100 block of South Wille. The event is being sponsored by the MPDMA - Mount Prospect Downtown Merchant's Association. Stores will be open and merchants will appreciate your patronage. Special Event This is a special engagement Mele Kalikimaka Themed Concert and will include a festive holiday spirit. Take a break from the busy shopping period, and put oneself into the spirit of the holidays with a little holiday magic by attending the Hula Holiday Magic Concert. The concert runs from 7:00 - 10:00 P.M. Theater doors open at 6:00 PM for entrance. Get there early and enjoy a special visit with Scottie the Parrot, who will be present from 6:00 to 7:00 greeting guests as they enter the theater. Bring your camera and get your holiday photo with Scottie the Parrot. Rumor has it that Scottie may even be part of the opening introductions of the concert. By attending this concert you will also be helping out persons with disabilities that can be helped by a service dog. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be going to Canine Companions for Independence, "a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships."
